Celebrate Brooklyn: Cold War Kids, Elvis Perkins, Sam Champion review

Hello Friends,

Although this might come a little late, I wanted to share the experience of Celebrate Brooklyn’s recent free concert featuring Cold War Kids, Elvis Perkins in Dearland and Sam Champion. Photo from Elvis Perkins in Dearland MyspaceThe night started a little shaky with everyone afraid of the possibility for rain but the mood overall was pretty positive. Sam Champion (a local Brooklyn band) took on the stage to start off the concert. Their popularity is definitely on the rise because of their great performance (even though the bassist took a little embarrassing spill in the beginning of the performance). Their hard rocking sound was a delight and freshened up the atmosphere. Next to take the stage was Elvis Perkins in Dearland. Their show was spectacular and was a perfect warm-up for the Cold War Kids. Elvis Perkins in Dearland’s eclectic mix of indie and folk was perfectly complemented by a unique stage presence. Elvis Perkins would begin the songs solo as the rest of the band later walked on stage playing their respective instruments. Personally, the lead singer of Cold War Kids stated it best “those guys are just so cool aren’t they?” The stage was now set for the Cold War Kids who had an absolutely stellar show playing the most popular songs off their album “Robbers & Cowards” while surprising the crowd with about 5 or 6 new songs from their album set to be released in September. They ended the show dramatically by welcoming Dearland back on stage and playing their fan favorite “Saint John.” If you haven’t heard of any of these bands you must look them all up and follow the links at the bottom!

Cheers from all of us here at Lonely Hollows.
